PFLAG Morris / Grundy Area celebrates first anniversary with community event
Christina Van Yperen President & CEO | Grundy County Chamber of Commerce

PFLAG Morris / Grundy Area marked its first anniversary last week with a community event at Keg Grove Brewing in Morris. The celebration coincided with the launch of Keg Grove’s Love is Love brew and was attended by PFLAG members, city officials, ambassadors from the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and local residents.

The organization, led by volunteers, provides support to LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and allies in Grundy County. It operates as part of the PFLAG Council of Northern Illinois and is affiliated with the national PFLAG network.

Christina Van Yperen, President & CEO of the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry, commented on the event: “The day of their toast, the room was filled with love and support from PFLAG advocates, and community members wanting to learn more. The growth of this organization is essential, and we look forward to helping it do just that.”

Jen Kundson spoke about the group’s mission: “We welcome anyone looking for community and support, whether they are LGBTQ+ individuals, parents, relatives, friends, or allies. Our monthly meetings offer connection, resources, and an opportunity to learn together in a safe and confidential space.”

Meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Morris Municipal Services Building Community Room at 700 N Division St., Morris. The chapter focuses on creating an inclusive environment for sharing experiences and learning. It also participates in local events and offers educational opportunities aimed at fostering inclusion.

PFLAG Morris / Grundy Area plans to expand outreach efforts and strengthen partnerships with other organizations while continuing advocacy work throughout Grundy County.

More information about upcoming meetings and events can be found at pflagillinois.org/chapters or by emailing pflag.morris.grundy@gmail.com. Updates are also available on Facebook and Instagram. Attendees must be 18 or older or have a parent or guardian present.
