Minooka Community High School District #111 is set to participate in the twelfth statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey, conducted by the Illinois State Board of Education, seeks input from students, teachers, and parents to assess school climate and learning conditions. Running from February 18 to March 31, the survey aims to identify strengths and weaknesses in schools' learning environments.

Dr. Robert Schiffbauer, Superintendent of MCHS, emphasized the importance of participation: “We encourage all of our teachers, students, and parents to complete the survey and make their voices heard to impact change. The survey results allow us to make data-driven decisions and provide us an opportunity to continuously improve.”

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey evaluates five key areas critical for school success: effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environment, and ambitious instruction. Research from the University of Chicago has shown that schools excelling in at least three of these areas are significantly more likely to achieve improvements in student reading and math.

Since its first statewide implementation in 2012-2013, the survey has included responses from a significant majority of schools across Illinois. Starting in 2018-19, younger students were also included in the survey process.

All district schools are required to conduct a learning conditions survey annually as part of compliance with state accountability measures under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). While districts can choose alternatives from a pre-approved list for this requirement since 2020-21—with necessary approvals—District #111 continues with the 5Essentials Survey.

Results will be available in May for principals and superintendents and publicly shared on various platforms later in the year. UChicago Impact administers the survey statewide on behalf of ISBE. More information is available online at www.5-essentials.org/illinois.
