Minooka Community High School (MCHS) has announced that 71 students from the graduating class of 2025 have been named Illinois State Scholars. Principal Jamie Soliman shared this news, highlighting the students' strong academic potential, which is determined by their ACT/SAT scores and sixth-semester class rank.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), responsible for college access and financial aid in the state, grants this recognition annually to outstanding high school students in Illinois. This year, over 16,500 students have been honored with this designation since its inception in 1958.
Eric Zarnikow, ISAC Executive Director, congratulated the scholars: “On behalf of ISAC, congratulations to all our Illinois State Scholars for their hard work and persistence in achieving this academic honor.” He emphasized the significance of these achievements as students move forward in their educational and career paths. Zarnikow also acknowledged the support from families, educators, and communities that contributed to the students' success.
Though the award does not include a monetary prize, recipients will receive a congratulatory letter and a Certificate of Achievement. They can also download an official badge to showcase on various platforms. Students are encouraged to complete financial aid applications such as FAFSA or the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid when they become available.
ISAC offers resources through its website and student portal to assist with college searches and career planning. The ISACorps provides mentorship from recent college graduates. Additionally, the First Generation Scholars Network supports first-generation college students during their transition into higher education.
