Grundy County and the Chamber of Commerce announced on November 4 that they are seeking proposals and consultants for a new broadband study. The initiative, part of Grundy's Resiliency Project, aims to conduct a Broadband Analysis, Strategy, and Feasibility Study to improve internet connectivity across the county. This effort is a component of the Grundy County Economic Diversification and Resiliency Plan.
According to Nancy Norton, President and CEO of the Grundy Economic Development Council (GEDC), "Robust and reliable broadband are a key component to prospering economies and Grundy County is no exception." Norton emphasized that an analysis, strategy, and feasibility study of current broadband capabilities will provide the necessary framework for future preparedness.
The GEDC and the Chamber of Commerce received a $600,000 grant in 2022 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to support community resiliency and diversity in areas hosting nuclear power facilities. Grundy County is contributing an additional 20% match to this grant.
Christina Van Yperen, President and CEO of the Grundy County Chamber, said that "there are a lot of phases and steps to the Grundy Resiliency Project," with each being crucial for the county's future. Van Yperen noted that the broadband portion is particularly significant. TIP Strategies was engaged in April to identify initiatives aligned with enhancing community resiliency and diversification.
Further details about submitting proposals can be found at resilientgrundy.com. Proposals must be submitted by November 22 at 4 p.m. to Nancy Norton at nnorton@gedc.com or Christina Van Yperen at christina@grundychamber.com.
