Minooka Community High School (MCHS) has been recognized on the College Board's AP School Honor Roll with a bronze distinction for the 2023-24 academic year. The honor roll acknowledges schools that have made significant efforts to increase student participation in Advanced Placement (AP) courses and support their journey toward college readiness.
The criteria for this recognition include the percentage of seniors who take at least one AP exam before graduating, those earning an AP Exam score of 3 or higher, and seniors taking five or more AP exams throughout high school, with at least one taken during freshman or sophomore years.
For the Class of 2024 at MCHS, 40% took at least one AP course before graduation. Additionally, 28% earned college credit by achieving an AP Exam score of 3, potentially reducing their future college expenses. Furthermore, 9% completed five or more AP courses during high school, including at least one in their early years.
MCHS also received the AP Access Award for its commitment to providing equitable access to advanced coursework. This award is given when the percentage of underrepresented minority and/or low-income students taking AP Exams reflects the school's overall demographics.
Trevor Packer, Senior Vice President of AP and Instruction at the College Board stated: “Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time.” He added that achieving such access requires a dedicated effort from various members of the school community.
